Starting a small business can be rough, emotionally and financially. That’s why I decided to pitch my first product, the Alberta Table Lamp, on Kickstarter. My team and I were amazed the success of our project, and received enough funds to prototype two new lamp styles and a brand spankin’ new website! Kickstarter is an incredible tool for bringing your prototype, business, or project into reality. Today I’m excited to share some of the tips I learned in building my own Kickstarter campaign in DesignSponge’s Biz Ladies column. I hope this information helps others who want to launch their products. Please click here to learn more!
And here are some behind-the-scenes photos from our Kickstarter campaign…

February lamps getting ready to go out…

Walnut finials and a lamp nestled in it’s box, ready to go to it’s new owner. It was really hard to let go of some of these, the walnut turned up so beautifully.

If you’re a little claustrophobic from looking at these last photos, it’s because I had 50 lamps crammed in my small studio! Overall, we shipped out 169 lamps to our Kickstarter backers. Many thanks to the people at Postal Annex who came down to help me out and tirelessly loaded up their truck with our lamps. It beat having to make 12 trips to the post office that day! Also, I just want to say that the people who backed us were totally amazing. Many wrote in kind words of support and some even offered to help. Their generosity continues to make my day! I’m really looking forward to showing them my next lamp designs, one of which they picked. It feels wonderful to have started a business this way.
